ABOUT OUR CHURCH

St Mary’s Anglican Church was built by the early settlers of the Vasse district. Its foundation stone was laid by Frances Bussell on 4 March 1844, and the church opened for worship on 11 April 1845.

The Heritage Council of Western Australia describes St Mary’s as “one of the oldest churches in the State” and recognises its close association with the founding and development of Busselton. The church and graveyard are entered on Western Australia’s Register of Heritage Places.

St. Mary's is thought to be the oldest stone church in Western Australia.
